Teddy bear

Sonja loves appliqué. She found the picture of a teddy bear sleeping on a moon, enlarged it and copied it on to Vlisofix. In a box she found some different colored squares and put them together as the background for a charity quilt.  As the backing fabric she decided to sew rainbow colored fabrics in the diagonal together. The quilt was quilted on our frame in a star pattern.

Because Sonja liked the pattern a lot she just made an other two quilts for a few friends who going to have babies soon.

Days for Girls

We helped out in a community working bee for an international project called ‘Days for Girls’ to make sanitary supplies for the days of their menstruation. This means for girls that they miss out on school days every month and women can’t go to work and don’t receive an most needed income during this time.

This time it was for women’s and girls in East- Timor which is supported by a local lady. We used our sewing skills to make pads, shields and bags, that involved cutting fabrics, over locking, ‘normal sewing’ and packing ready to go bags.
If you like to find out more about the project go on to their web side

Pinwheel Quilts

Made after a pattern from Marion Patterson.

Sonja chose some animal printed fabrics and combined it with bright colors. It is made out of 2 ½ inc strips. Aren’t those monkeys lock great? For the backing she joined strips in rainbow colors. One of the Kids at Monish might like it.

Because it was fun to do she decided to make an other charity Quilt. This time she chose purple, white, yellow, blue and spotty fabric and to make it a bit bigger she chose 3 inc stripes. She quilted it on a domestic machine with walking foot in a zigzag pattern. A girl might like it.

A game of chess

Thinking of what’s the best thing to kill some time in a hospital Sonja came up with the idea of a chess quilt. The board was made quick and easy out of black and white fabrics. Then she appliquéd some figures on the quilt to make it look a bit fancier. the job wasn’t finished after quilting and binding some playing pads had to be made. Adding a few basic chess rules to the bag and a kid can start playing chess while having its treatment at the monish hospital.
